Quick Take: Go for it… It’ll make your day!

The soundtrack opens up with a song that takes you back to the 50s magic of Shailendra, Shankar Jaikishan and Mukesh. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan brings back the memories of Raj Kapoor when he sings Dil to bachcha hai. Kudos to composer Vishal Bhardwaj and lyricist Gulzar for creating this gem. The next song, Ibn E Batuta is a road song. Now who is this Ibn E Batuta. Well, Wikipedia tells us that he was a thirteenth century Muslim scholar pilgrim who travelled the Islamic world. Only Gulzar can take a random name and make it stick to a song as if it belonged there. Sukhwinder Singh and Mika raise mayhem in this tribute to taking life as a journey. Next comes, Ab mujhe koi, one of the most poetic of Gulzar songs. It reminds you of Mera kuch saaman from Ijazzat. Rekha Bhardwaj’s voice dominates the song with the music chirping along in the background in this jazz-blues number. She scores in the next song Badi dheere jali  too which is Vishal’s best in terms of orchestration. He uses Mohan Veena and Drum sets on an Indian classical raag based melody to create magic.

To keep the dhan te nan crowd happy, the album also has remixed versions of Dil to bachcha hai and Ibn E Batuta. They are good for the discos but aren’t a patch on the originals. The album can only be spoken in superlatives. Don’t miss it for the world.
